“Roots to Radiance: 5 Steps to Help One Another Shine”
Workshop Description:
This workshop will focus on effective ways to create powerful learning, teaching, training, and mentoring, and the benefits to both the student or mentee and the teacher, trainer, or mentor. We will discuss best practices, approaches, and strategies educators can employ to be most effective and ways to keep ourselves stimulated, growing, and inspired as educators, highlighting Processing, Memory, Cohesion, Structuring Space, and Confidence.
Educational Objectives:
Participants will:
1) Apply the 5 principles interpreters can use to deepen the quality of their work (Processing, Memory, Structuring Space, Cohesion, and Confidence) to teaching, training &/or mentoring.
2) Discuss challenges and successes they have experienced in their teaching, training &/or mentoring experience.
3) Analyze and determine strategies that they can apply to their teaching, training &/or mentoring.
4) Analyze and list goals for moving forward with teaching, training &/or mentoring in the position of educator, trainer, or mentor and that of student, learner, or mentee.
Bio:
Sharon Neumann Solow works with great commitment and joy as an interpreter, trainer, performer, lecturer, author, and consultant. Her career, spanning over 60 years, has taken her around the world. She is the author of three books: Sign Language Interpreting: A Basic Resource Book and Say It with Sign, and her latest book, “Powerful Interpreting: Build Your Skills in 5 Steps”. She has also written numerous professional articles and handbooks and has appeared as an ASL performer live and on television. She is a working interpreter, primarily in legal settings, holding the SC:L, medical, community, educational, and conference settings. Along with teaching sign language interpreters and educators at all levels, she has collaborated with and been involved in the education of spoken language interpreters and interpreter educators. She practices the principles she recommends: to learn from others at every opportunity and to share what might be useful to them as well.
