Mary Stotler Award

Mary Stotler Awards

Mary Stotler was one of the founding members of CIT. She was highly respected for her work with the CIT Board and for her contributions to the interpreting profession.

Since 1985, CIT has honored individuals who have made outstanding contributions to interpreter education, research, and the communities they serve through the Mary Stotler Award.  The award is currently being revised for the 2028 conference; therefore, unfortunately, no award will be presented in 2026.

The Mary Stotler Award (MSA) Committee has two primary responsibilities: 1) revising the standards, criteria, and rubric used to select MSA recipients, and 2) overseeing website development and social media promotion related to the award.

Who was Mary Stotler?

She was a cherished interpreter in the Seattle area who was well respected in the Deaf and interpreting communities. She was a founding member of CIT and served on its board. A well-respected interpreter and interpreter educator, her influence was felt both in the Northwest and in the nation. This award was established in her honor.
