Workshop Description:
Join the Transitional CEO for the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) for a critical examination of the organization. This workshop will explore the Genesis of RID, tracing its foundational history and role in professionalizing the field. We will then analyze the Present State of RID, addressing recent organizational challenges, strategic shifts, and the ongoing commitment to reconciliation and renewed engagement with the Deaf community and membership. Finally, we will delve into Prospective Paths, inviting participants to engage in a discussion about the essential work needed to build a sustainable, equitable, and impactful future for RID and the interpreting profession.
Educational Objectives:
The participants will be able to:
1) Describe the foundational history with at least three examples
2) Analyze the current state of RID with two examples of organizational challenges and strategic shifts
3) Illustrate 2-3 paths that RID will be moving towards to build a sustainable future for RID
Bio:
Scott Ready has been a certified sign language interpreter since 1979 and holds the RID Comprehensive Skills Certificate, Mid-America Quality Assurance Screening Test Level 5/5, and NAD Master Level V credentials. He previously served as Department Chair of an Interpreter Training Program, preparing the next generation of interpreters and advancing online interpreter education. For more than two decades, Scott has held corporate and executive leadership roles with organizations including Blackboard, Verbit, and Convo Communications, primarily focused on accessibility, inclusion, organizational growth, and expanding opportunities for Deaf and hard of hearing people. He currently serves as Transitional CEO of the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
