Facilitation will be offered from September 4 -11, 2019.  Participants will have until September 18th to complete the requirements for CEUs.

About the Online Workshop

The webinar, entitled “Scholarly Engagement: A Deep Dive with Carol Patrie on the Effective Interpreting Series” will have three components. First, course content will be available in Canvas and will include videos, supplemental materials and discussions.  Second, the author will be interviewed by a CIT member about The Effective Interpreting Series and how teachers and or mentors can incorporate it into their practice. The third portion of the webinar is a live Question and Answer session with Carol Patrie.

Educational Objectives

At the end of the workshop participants will be able to:

• Explain the principles that underlie The Effective Interpreting Series.
• Describe the intralingual components of the EIS pyramid and their importance.
• Discuss the interlingual components of the EIS and their importance.
• Express their understanding by responding to the prompts in Canvas.
• Report on the similarities between the exercises in ASL and English.
• Review the study questions for students and adapt to their own classrooms.
• Describe the Five Step Follow Up for self-analysis and explain its importance.

About the Facilitator

Carol J. Patrie, Ph.D., CSC, CI, CT

Patrie, an independent researcher and writer, is widely known for her landmark research on fingerspelling and teaching interpretation. Patrie was on the faculty at Gallaudet, as Professor and Director of the MA in Interpreting and received the Outstanding Graduate Faculty award.
She is a member of the editorial boards of the International Journal of Interpreter Education and The Journal of Interpretation. She is a past president of the CIT and is a recipient of the Mary Stotler Award.  She authored The Effective Interpreting Series, Fingerspelled Word Recognition through Rapid Serial Visual Presentation and Interpreting Settings.
