Putting ASL into Your Email
There are a variety of mobile apps that allow for video messages to be sent. Glide and Marco Polo are two popular ones. However, if you want to easily include video in an email, there is a simple solution for Gmail users.
Cloud HQ offers a plug-in for the Chrome browser that allows you to easily include a video. It automatically records and uploads your video – then creates a freeze frame of the video with a link to the online video.
You can check out the ASL version of this message below. When you view the message, it will offer you a link to install the video plug-in on your own computer.
How it Works
Once you install the Cloud HQ Video for Email plug-in, when you open Gmail in Chrome, there will be a new icon just to the right of your Send button that is a black video camera. In the image below, it is circled in red and a red arrow points at it. When you scroll over the icon, it will give you the tip, “Record and Send Video Email.”
When you click the icon, a window will pop up and access your web cam. There is a record button on the right side of the window. At the top, you can use different effects. If you are interested in not switching dominance, you can use the option for “Flip Horizontally” and it will reverse the mirror effect. You can also click the “Recent Videos” tab to get past videos to include as well as rename your video so you will be able to remember it. To include the video, click the blue “Embed video into email” button in the lower right. See the image below for visual cues.
