Assistant Professor of Sign Language Interpreting
The Department of Education at Augustana University in Sioux Falls, SD, invites applicants for a full-time faculty position in Sign Language Interpreting beginning August 2020. The Sign Language Interpreting Program at Augustana is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education (CCIE). Salary and rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities include face to face undergraduate courses in Sign Language Interpreting and potentially ASL. Responsibilities also include recruiting and advising students; providing service to the University and profession; and developing ongoing collaborations with schools, agencies and the community.
Qualifications
Earned Master’s degree in Sign Language Interpreting, or a related area; must be a certified interpreter (BEI, RID or CASLI) or be willing to earn CDI, active in the interpreting profession which may include research, involvement with interpreting organizations, and/or interpreting; ability to work collaboratively with colleagues. Native or near native fluency preferred.
Interacting with students, faculty and leadership with different backgrounds and points of view and a deep appreciation of and respect for academic values and culture must be a top value of the candidate.
