News from the National Task Force on Deaf-Blind Interpreting

Presenters List

The National Task Force on Deaf-Blind Interpreting (NTFDBI), a collaboration among the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, the American Association of the Deaf-Blind and the National Consortium of Interpreter Education Centers, with representation from other organizations and stakeholder groups, is a task force whose mission is to establish a standard of effective practice to ensure the quality and availability of interpreters for deaf-blind people. The website, www.deafblindinterpreting.org, includes a variety of resources and other information on deaf-blind interpreting, including a presenters list of people who can present on topics related to deaf-blind people and interpreting. If you are in need of a presenter or would like to add your name to the list, please check the website. The NTFDBI also seeks to collaborate with other organizations and entities on furthering the goal of improving access to interpreters who work with the diverse population of deaf-blind individuals. Call for Work Group on Deaf-Blind Interpreter Education

At the CIT conferences in 2008 and 2010, the NTFDBI hosted sessions to gather input from CIT members and others on how to improve deaf-blind interpreter education. From these sessions, we gathered an extensive list of ideas and issues. We would like to put together a small group of CIT members and deaf-blind individuals to strategize how best to approach these issues and work toward implementation. If you would like to work on this group, please let us know at the above e-mail address.

GoogleGroup on Deaf-Blind Interpreter Education

The NTFDBI also has a GoogleGroup on Deaf-Blind Interpreter Education that we would love to see grow and become a place for fruitful dialogue. DeafBlind Day, Indianapolis
Pre-Conference at the RID Conference

Purpose

DeafBlind Day is an event organized by the National Task Force on Deaf-Blind Interpreting (NTFDBI)* to bring together DeafBlind individuals, interpreters and others who are interested in learning more about interpreting for DeafBlind people.
DeafBlind Day and related events aim to not only provide a special focused day on DeafBlind topics, but also to raise the profile of DeafBlind opportunities throughout the entire RID Conference including a booth in the Exhibit Hall.

Who should go?

All sessions held on DeafBlind Day will be designed for a mixed audience that includes both DeafBlind individuals and the interpreter community. The event itself is FREE, and interpreters can earn .8 CEUs (pending) for $50.

Proposed Schedule:

RID has reserved a conference room for us. A tentative schedule for our day includes:

10:00-11:45 a.m. – SSP Mini-Training Session
