As you may know, the NCIEC was granted a one year extension of its federal funding until September 30, 2016.  The focus of this final year is dissemination of research, educational opportunities, and resources.  We seek to offer educational opportunities that highlight not only NCIEC resources but also provide examples of how to apply  these resources.  Among the many training opportunities offered by all the centers of the NCIEC, the National Interpreter Education Center (NIEC) will offer the first ever Teaching Slam!

NCIEC Teaching Slam
Save the Date: Friday, June 17th, 2016!
9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern

Creativity & Curriculum: An NCIEC Teaching Slam, is a first of its kind, fast-paced, live teaching event! The Slam features exemplary instructors, innovative course materials, and reflective dialogue. Each presenter is given 50-minutes to showcase their lesson. This event will be live streamed free of charge.
The Slam will showcase best practices in interpreter education utilizing resources offered by the NCIEC.  Presenters include persons who worked to create learning exercises based on the NCIEC TerpTalks.  Other presenters developed lessons while attending the 2015 VRSII.
The Slam presenters are:  Brian Morrison, Dennis Cokely, Eileen Forestal, Elizabeth Jean-Baptiste, Erica West-Oydele and Jamie Rix.  For more information about the Slam, visit our website.
We have six months before this current cycle of federal funding will conclude.  Be sure to take advantage of all the resources available from the NCIEC.  Teachers, mentors, interpreters and students will find materials at http://www.interpretereducation.org/.
See you at the Slam!
