Position Description

A three-year term instructor appointment beginning August 1, 2021. This position is renewable based on the needs of the program.

The Department of Classical & Modern Languages- American Sign Language Interpreting Studies program at the University of Louisville invites applicants for a full-time Term Instructor to serve as the Coordinator of ASL Curriculum and Instruction. As part of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Department offers a Bachelor of Science in American Sign Language Interpreting Studies as well as a minor in Deaf Studies. The ASL faculty teach all levels of ASL to a diverse student body using an immersive approach. Full-time faculty are expected to teach, assess, communicate effectively through ASL and written English, support part-time faculty members, participate in department, division, and college-wide committees, and engage in ongoing professional development, including equity training. This Term Instructor will also be responsible for coordinating the program’s ASL instruction. This position is subject of final budget approval.

We seek applicants prepared to teach face-to-face, hybrid, and online undergraduate courses who are committed to teaching excellence, program and curriculum development, leadership, and collaboration with faculty, staff and community partners. This position works productively with the Director of ASL Interpreting Studies, ASLIS faculty, and community partners. Active engagement with the Deaf community is expected. Additionally, the successful candidate will demonstrate a clear commitment to understanding issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion, as well as best practices for ensuring that all students in a diverse community, including members of traditionally underrepresented groups, are supported.
