Lecturer of ASL/English Interpreting
The University of New Hampshire, Manchester Campus invites applications for the position of Lecturer of ASL/English Interpreting. This Lecturer position begins January 2017 and is a non tenure-track appointment with a one-year renewable contract. The person in this position will primarily teach courses in ASL/English interpreting and may teach courses in American Sign Language (ASL) or Deaf culture (if needed and appropriate). The program has met the National Interpreter Education Standards since 1999 and was the first interpreting program in the country to be accredited by the Collegiate Commission on Interpreter Education (CCIE) in 2007. Opportunities exist to develop innovative approaches to teaching, engagement, and experiential learning in this nationally recognized program
Candidates with a Ph.D. in Interpretation, Deaf Studies, Linguistics, or a related field are preferred. Candidates who are multicultural, have native or near-native fluency in ASL, and are Deaf are especially welcome to apply. Evidence of teaching excellence and academic contributions to the fields of Interpreting, ASL, and/or Deaf Studies are required. Also, national certification as an interpreter (e.g., CDI, NIC) is preferred. The teaching load is 3 courses per semester and courses range from introductory to advanced courses in the ASL/English interpreting program.
