ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, ASL/ENGLISH INTERPRETING

The University of North Florida, College of Education and Human Services, invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-earning position as an Assistant or Associate Professor in the BS and MS degree programs in ASL/English Interpreting, beginning either Fall 2019 or Spring 2020 semesters.

Program Overview:

The B.S. program at UNF offers a hybrid 2+2 articulation model with 2-year interpreting degree programs around the state (AS to BS Concentration in General Practice) and a concentration in Community Interpreting for UNF students. The master’s degree program has two concentrations: Interpreting Pedagogy (online plus 10-day summer sessions) and General Practitioner (online with no more than one weekend per semester on campus). Both programs are philosophically devoted to service learning in the Deaf community, interpreting research, and international study opportunities. Summer teaching is available.

Responsibilities:

This position requires teaching a variety of courses in both the graduate and undergraduate program via face-to-face, blended, and fully online modalities. In addition to teaching, faculty are expected to design online, blended, and traditional courses, advise graduate students, engage in empirical research, work collaboratively with other faculty to revise and develop curricula in accordance with the standards of the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education, participate in recruitment efforts, and demonstrate a commitment to both institutional and community service.

Requirements:

  1. Earned doctorate in Interpreting, Linguistics, Adult Learning, Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Deaf Education, or a related field
  2. Experience teaching online or blended courses
  3. Current interpreting experience
  4. College/university teaching experience in ASL/English Interpreting
  5. Evidence of a research agenda and scholarly productivity
  6. National certification from NAD, RID, or AVLIC (CSC, CI & CT, NIC, COI, CDI, or NAD IV/V)
