Eastern Kentucky University invites applications for Chair of the American Sign Language and Interpreter Education Department, to begin August 2018. Tenure and rank are negotiable depending on experience and qualifications. A doctoral degree from a regionally accredited university is preferred; an ABD from such a program is the minimum requirement.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a record of effective teaching and research, budget management, and familiarity with HR policies and procedures. A deep knowledge of Deaf culture, fluency in ASL (certified by ASLTA and/or RID), a strong commitment to diversity, and proven leadership in a bilingual bicultural educational setting are essential. Experience and skill in identifying and writing applications for grants, developing collaborative internal and external partnerships, and recruiting/retaining faculty and students are highly desirable. The ASLIE Department includes 24 faculty and staff and offers the B.S. in ASL-English Interpretation, the B.A. in Deaf Studies, and a minor in ASL Studies.
