Northeastern UniversityThe American Sign Language Program in the College of Social Sciences and Humanities at Northeastern University invites nominations and applications for the position of Open Rank Teaching Professor or Professor of the Practice in American Sign Language, with an expected start date of Fall 2018. Starting rank will depend upon the successful candidate’s qualifications. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated potential for excellence in leadership and innovative teaching.
The position will support the University’s commitment to innovation in teaching, professional development and service as well as the Program’s vision of preparing individuals to interact in a positive and supportive manner with members of the American Deaf Community (see The successful candidate will have a faculty appointment within the Department of Cultures, Societies, and Global Studies ( Candidates should have demonstrated commitment to fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting experiential learning, which are central to a Northeastern University education.The successful candidate will be expected to teach six courses per academic year in the ASL/English interpreting major. Those courses include Interpreting Inquiry Texts, Interpreting Narrative Texts, Interpreting Expository Texts and Interpreting Persuasive Texts, as well as any courses the candidate may create for the Program or Department.
Qualifications A PhD or its equivalent in any field related to ASLCSGS, Linguistics, Sociolinguistics or Education is preferred.
