The Department of Classical & Modern Languages’ American Sign Language Interpreting Studies
program at the University of Louisville invites applicants for a full-time Term Instructor position in
American Sign Language, to begin August 1, 2022. As part of the College of Arts and Sciences, the
Department offers a Bachelor of Science in American Sign Language Interpreting Studies. The ASL faculty
teach all levels of ASL to a diverse student body using an immersive approach. Full-time faculty are
expected to teach, assess, communicate effectively through ASL and written English, participate in
department, division, and college-wide committees, and engage in ongoing professional development,
including equity training. This is a one-year term position with the possibility of renewals and is subject
to final budgetary approval.

We seek applicants prepared to teach face-to-face undergraduate courses who are committed to
teaching excellence, program and curriculum development, leadership, and collaboration with faculty,
staff, and community partners. Active engagement with the Deaf community is expected.

• MA or higher in ASL Education, ASL Linguistics, or other closely related field
• 2+ years of teaching ASL experience at the college level.
• Native or near-native proficiency in ASL
• Evidence of teaching excellence
• Understanding of best teaching practices and instructional pedagogy

• Involvement in local, state, and national organizations that promote best practices in ASL
