For the first time, CIT will be having an official blog that will provide people an opportunity to share reflections and dialogue online about their experiences at the conference. This is not meant to replace the face-to-face interactions that happen at the conference. However, having a blog will enable people to continue the interactions and also have a bit of a historical record of the conference.
Along with Karen Malcolm, I actually had the privilege of serving as a blogger for the National Symposium on Interpreting in Healthcare, sponsored by the CATIE Center at St. Catherine University. While it didn’t actually lead to much dialogue on the site (people were too busy with actually attending the sessions), we did receive some positive feedback about the reflections being shared and the opportunity to learn about presentations that they wished they could have attended.
Personally, it was also an experience that really intensified my own learning. Blogging about the sessions I attended forced me to be more attentive and integrate what was presented into my own thinking. So, even if no one actually paid attention to the blog, writing (and signing) for an audience really heightened my own learning.
With that in mind, I would like to invite you to consider signing up to be a conference blogger. You can contact myself or Lynne Wiesman, our director of technology, and we will create an account for you on our blog. You will then be able to post some reflections. If you do sign up, we ask that you commit to posting at least one short reflection. Even if you don’t sign up, you will be able to comment on either specific workshops or on blog posts.
